Abstract Background and aims Calcium deficiency is evident in populations worldwide combating this could be addressed with the biofortification of staple crops. Consequently, identification Ca concentration breeding trials would essential. Here we report use energy dispersive x-ray fluorescence (EDXRF) for rapid screening seed samples. Methods Grain samples rice, wheat, pearl millet, bean, maize, cowpea were provided from programs analysed inductively coupled plasma – mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) to determine reference concentration.
